I’m very excited to start working with The Fury Cast – Kara Griffin and Andi Work in the lead duet, Caitlyn Juengel and Jess Duffy in the second duet, Jim Reynolds, Meg Wagner, and Rachael Fine in the trio, and Casey Castine, Emily Falconer, Karena Thacker, and Kathleen Boyle in the quartet. I also have two great understudies in Lauren Renck and Anastasia Windler and a new assistant in Carly Flynn. We have our first cast meeting December 9 and then rehearsals will begin in February. In the meantime, I’ll be ’story boarding’ the piece and spending countless hours in the studio working on the movement vocabulary and setting phrase material. I’ll be blogging about my progress with the ’story boarding’ and movement generation. Additionally, once we enter the rehearsal period, I’ll be blogging about the creative process with the dancers as well as posting studio photographs and comments from the dancers. The Fury will be an intense physical, technical, and musical dance – I can’t wait to get started!
Revision and Audition Week
In Uncategorized on November 16, 2009 at 1:30 pmAkasha Part I had a very good run this past week. The dancers and musicians really began connecting on the second night and the level of the entire piece deepened. After watching the dance multiple times during the technical rehearsal and performance, I was able to step back and look at the piece as a whole. I think the piece did encapsulate the essence of Akasha/Ether and I feel that I have “said” everything I have to about Ether from a choreographic standpoint. I feel the piece stands on its own and doesn’t “need” further sections. Therefore, I am currently working on revising and revisiting a concept I first started designing this past summer – The Fury. I am heading into auditions on Tuesday and am looking forward to teaching the first Fury phrase to the dancers.
Performance Week!
In Uncategorized on November 8, 2009 at 10:22 pmAkasha Part I is heading into tech rehearsal tomorrow night. I’m looking forward to seeing the final costumes and lighting! The rehearsals with the musicians last week went very well and I can’t wait to place them in the performance space tomorrow night. They add a layer of depth and complexity to the dance that simply ‘completes the work’. The dancers are beginning to ‘embody’ the material and are peaking at the right time.
Our dress rehearsal is Wednesday and then we’re running Thursday-Saturday (2 shows each day.) I’ll be posting photographs and video soon!
